UAE Ports open their doors to a new global shipping agent.
The General Ports Authority (“MAWANI”) has granted Pacific International Lines (PIL), a global shipping line, the status of an Approved Foreign Investor and issued it a unified license to conduct maritime agency operations in the Kingdom’s ports. This approval adheres to the standards and controls stipulated in the regulatory framework for maritime agents and reflects MAWANI’s efforts to improve operational performance at ports, attract global expertise, and transfer knowledge within the Kingdom, in line with best international practices in maritime transport.
This step is part of MAWANI’s ongoing efforts to develop the maritime business climate, encourage investment from global companies in the Saudi market, and enhance the competitiveness of the maritime sector. The company manages its operations in 29 countries through its regional headquarters in Riyadh.
This move contributes to strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a major logistics hub, in line with the National Strategy for Transport and Logistics Services, and attracting more global shipping lines, thereby enhancing the Kingdom’s role as a vital link between continents.
Through its regulations, the General Ports Authority opens the door for foreign companies to invest in the maritime agency sector. Granting the license to PIL is part of a series of licenses being awarded to major global companies specializing in maritime transport, with the aim of developing a sophisticated and sustainable maritime sector, supporting the growth of the Kingdom’s ports, and enhancing their investment attractiveness, which supports their role as a key driver of regional and international trade and generates added economic value in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to solidify the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics center.
