Umrah requires meningitis vaccination: Urgent health warning.
The Ministry of Health has issued an important directive to all pilgrims intending to perform Umrah, stressing the necessity of receiving a meningitis vaccination before traveling to Mecca.
This measure is part of the Ministry’s “Your Health is a Priority” campaign, launched under the slogan “Welcome to You,” aimed at providing a safe and healthy environment for pilgrims and limiting the spread of infectious diseases, particularly given the high density of people during the Umrah season.
The Ministry warned of the danger of infection in crowded places, noting that meningitis is one of the most serious diseases that spreads easily through airborne droplets and can cause health complications that prevent pilgrims from completing their rituals.
It emphasized the importance of receiving the vaccine at least ten days before travel to ensure the development of strong immunity to protect the pilgrim. The Ministry clarified that the vaccine provides protection for five years, protecting both the individual and the surrounding community.
The Ministry has exempted those who received the vaccine within the past five years from the need for re-vaccination.
To facilitate the process, the Ministry of Health is offering the vaccination free of charge through the “Sehati” (My Health) application, urging pilgrims to book an appointment at the “Adult Vaccination Clinic” in available health centers.
